Israel and Palestine.
The Ukraine and Russia.
The mess at the U.S. – Mexican border (not to mention the mess in Congress).
Now, ebola.
And in the middle of it all, we still have our own private fears, struggles and frustrations.
So … would you mind if I bring a little perspective to all this?
Priority Reminder #1: What you choose to focus on over these next few days will greatly impact your state-of-mind. Garbage in, garbage out, as they say. And, of course, the opposite is true — when you surround yourself with excellence and clear-eyed determination, you find that your heart and mind carry much greater strength.
Temper your media intake this week, as most of those outlets are, quite literally, merchants of fear.
Oh, and as I write this, it’s no surprise that the stock market is “reacting” just a bit. (The Dow Jones is down over 500 points since Tuesday, 7/29.) So, this leads to my second reminder:
Priority Reminder #2: The only thing certain about the stock market is that it’s uncertain and volatile. So those of you with many assets resting there, don’t make moves out of panic. Sit down and discuss a tax-advantaged strategy … not a knee-jerk response based on fear.
Priority Reminder #3: The only thing you can truly control is yourself, and how you respond to the events around you.
– You can’t control the market. (If you really can, please call me at once – I promise to take your call!)
– You can’t control foreign affairs.
– And in the bigger sense, you can’t even control your income and work situation. (the past 18 months, we have seen an astonishing number of successful clients lose six and seven-figure incomes)
Other than our heart-felt prayers, and our conscious decisions to focus our attention on the people and things that really do matter most to us, there’s little we can control.
One of the things that you can at least impact is your yearly tax strategy.
If you have either a part or full-time business, there are numerous steps we can recommend to save thousands and even tens of thousands in wasted income taxes.
And even if you don’t have a business, there are worthwhile steps that we can likely recommend.
So, with those key reminders in mind, here’s what I suggest:
